My Story
At SnapSmile, I joined the Product team as a Data Operations & Product Management Intern during the development and launch phase of their mobile application. The team was focused on building a personalized dental wellness platform that leveraged behaviour analytics and user feedback to improve engagement and product-market fit.
The Problem
With the app preparing for release on the Apple App Store, the team was focused on identifying friction points in the user journey, reducing churn, and improving new user conversion. My role involved supporting both product development and go-to-market strategies through experimentation, data analysis, and design implementation.
To address this, I worked across several key areas:
-
Conversion Optimization: I conducted A/B testing on onboarding and feature flows (N=120), which improved engagement by 15% and reduced bounce rates by 22%.
-
Design Implementation: I translated 12+ Figma prototypes into responsive Java-based UIs, resulting in a 30% drop in front-end bug reports post-launch.
-
User Acquisition Strategy: Using stochastic models and tracking 8 KPIs, I helped drive over 500 active users in the first two weeks—17% above our acquisition targets.
-
Market Intelligence: I leveraged Looker and SEMrush to guide early marketing initiatives, benchmark against competitors, and inform messaging and design during the App Store launch phase.
Key Takeaways
-
Balancing speed and stability
-
Shipping quickly is crucial in startup environments, but I learned how essential it is to embed QA checkpoints early in development to avoid costly fixes down the line.
-
-
Using data to influence product direction
-
Data doesn't just validate decisions—it can shape them. Showing real impact through engagement metrics and KPI tracking helped bring cross-functional teams into alignment.
-
-
Design is only as good as its implementation
-
Working closely with engineers gave me firsthand insight into how important design implementation can be. Making design decisions with a dev-first mindset improved delivery and team velocity.
